The downside of animal identification

In the ongoing fight to ensure food safety and security, a, FDA plan to tag livestock with ID chips might seem like a good, 21st-Century solution - each animnal is entered into a federal tracking system, so that any disease outbreak can be almost instantaneously narrowed down. But is it a good plan? Or does it make life - and success - much more difficult for small farmers? One farmer has weighed in with an opinion piece in the New York Times.
