Milwaukee transit plan unveiled

Urban Milwaukee reports that Gov. Doyle unveiled the city's new transit plan at Bucyrus in South Milwaukee this morning.

The legislation could create an interim transit authority in Milwaukee County, with other counties permitted to phase in and create their own authorities. Proponents say this would create a strong regional system.

The plan is not without its detractors but supporters claim that an enhanced bus system gives Milwaukee a better chance of receiving federal funds for a light rail system.

The Business Journal of Milwaukee also picked up the story.

AT&T, Roundy's, Bucyrus, SC Johnson, Johnson Controls, Northwestern Mutual, IBEW joined the governor in support of a Regional Transit Authority.

Can we get it done and done right? C'mon. We got so close last time. We need to get modern and move our city/region forward.
