Ode magazine bills itself as the publication for "intelligent optimists."
Its mission statement reads, in part: "We believe in progress, ongoing opportunities and the creativity of humankind. We contribute to progress by publishing stories about the people and ideas that are making a difference."
This month, foodie Michael Pollan nominates a Boston child obesity expert as the issue's intelligent optimist. Pollan writes: "A pioneering researcher, clinician, and writer, David Ludwig is making a difference in the fight against childhood obesity. His work on the role of soda has shifted the debate and made the once-outrageous notion of a soda tax an idea being seriously entertained by policymakers up to and including the president."
