Sitting here in downtown Milwaukee, trying to keep tabs on Outpost news, food news, environment news... and often listening to the sound of construction below our window, it can often happen that a press release or e-mail catches our attention a little too much and transports us to another world.
That definitely happened today when this missive arrived: Wild Grove Homestead, just beyond Sheboygan, is gearing up for maple syrup season and it's an open invitation for anyone who's interested.
"We will be building a large jet stove to process the sap outside this year. We encourage you to experience the process with us - from tapping the trees and lugging the buckets, to maintaining the jet stove and canning the syrup. E-mail us if you want to participate this winter!"
Wild Grove has a wonderful web site, featuring lists of produce available for sale, classes held on the farm, photos and videos of cute newborn bunnies and such, and even some information about WWOOFING. What is that, you ask? WWOOFERS get to spend a week or two living on the farm, working and learning as one of the family. It's perfect for anyone interested in growing or farming ... and it is providing this city-dwelling blogger with a great mental health break right now.
OK. Back to work ...
